Such seminars allow you to interact with professionals who are not directly trained in politics but who have a lot of information about the workings of European Governments. They will be able to give you advice on which issues are the most important to you as a student and which are less important. They will also be able to offer you information on research opportunities and the ins and outs of the EU research arena.
